Secondary Program

North Vancouver School District offers secondary students comprehensive programming – from academics to athletics, to the arts, and technology.

Overview

All North Vancouver secondary schools have developed comprehensive programs for students that support strong academics, athletics, fine arts and technology. In addition to the core academic subjects, our schools offer an extensive variety of music, art, drama and athletic programs, as well as a wide selection of elective subjects, such as robotics; photography; psychology; and fitness and conditioning.

The Secondary Program is designed to provide students with the courses necessary to enter university, college or other post-secondary institutions, as well as the skills and training necessary to pursue career and vocational opportunities.

Fine Arts subjects such as dance, drama, music, and visual arts provide opportunities for students to represent their learning through creating, communicating and performing.

Applied Design, Skills and Technologies (ADST) courses such as engineering; woodwork; metalwork; textiles; computer sciences; and auto mechanics provide students with an opportunity to develop knowledge and apply practical skills.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative abilities, and prepare students for future careers in high-demand fields.

Each secondary school has at least one international counsellor available to assist international students with course programming, as well as offering support and guidance throughout students' year(s) of study.

Secondary school international students may reside with family members or in an approved homestay program.
