About the Community
A natural choice
Both North Vancouver municipalities — the City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver — are safe, family-oriented and multicultural. Our mild West Coast climate and breathtaking natural beauty provide an excellent environment for both in-school and extracurricular activities.
Living on the North Shore affords students the opportunity to experience everything that British Columbia has to offer:
- An abundance of parks and natural parkland for every type of recreation - between 15-20% of North Vancouver is designated parkland.
- Grouse and Seymour mountains provide lush forests for biking, hiking, and walking, as well as amazing terrain for snowboarding, downhill and cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Mount Fromme, located between Grouse and Seymour, is known for hiking and world renowned mountain biking trails maintained by North Shore Mountain Biking Association (NSMBA).
- Deep Cove offers opportunities for sailing, swimming, kayaking and paddleboarding.
- Other recreational activities include golfing, skateboarding, hockey, ice skating, tennis, and pickleball.
- The Shipyards features restaurants, cafes, shops and services, space for community events (e.g., concerts and markets), plus the region's largest outdoor skating rink in the winter and a splash park in the summer.
- Our proximity to water, mountains (including world-class Whistler and Blackcomb mountains), forested settings, and two North Shore municipalities make North Vancouver a highly desirable destination for families and international students.
Highly accessible with an excellent public transit system (Translink), North Vancouver is also a 20-minute drive from downtown Vancouver, a 45-minute drive from the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and a 90-minute drive from Whistler-Blackcomb.
